Girl in the Glass

A ROMANCE

Ammon POV

Yawn. I wake up to my alarm clock ringing. I consider hitting snooze but then think better of it. I walk over to my window and open the curtains. Sunlight begins to pour into the room. The sky was mostly clear with a hint of clouds. The sky made me feel happy for a moment. But only a moment. I immediately realized what today was. The big test. I rush to get ready. I throw on some black slacks, a tie, jacket, white shirt, and dress shoes. Soon i am done getting ready. I hop into the elevator. As soon as the doors open I am greeted by my boss.

"Well Ammon! Todays a big big day!" He states

He hands me my labcoat and I put it on. So much for looking nice. The boss enters the code into a keypad and we enter a huge room with a spheral glass case in the middle. I stared at the girl inside. She has been in there eighteen years.

"Boss?" I say turning to my boss.

"Are you sure she can handle it?" I question.

"She has handled everything else!" He exclaimed.

I stared at the girl, only three years younger than me. She has been through so much. I could never quit my job or they would have to kill me for all the secrets i know. I begin to wish i had not gone to college when i was 15. Then i would not be here. Watching her hurt. Thinking her world is a reality when she is really just living in a fake world of lies. I long to save her. But it would be impossible. I begin to feel sick.

I tell my boss I am feeling unwell and he excuses me. I hop in the elevator and go up to my room. Why did I feel this way? Maybe because human compassion. I really did not know. What I did know was I could not stand to think of what she went through, day by day. Living in a cruel, imaginary world. I sat down on my bed, wondering about how i got here.
