6 tribes...fighting to rule....but a hidden enemy lurks in the dark

Shattered [Republished]

Dedication

To the Houses of the DSGHQ, whom these tribes were based upon. And to my friends and companions, for dealing with my bad nights and bad writing.

Prologue

100 years before

The world had crumbled. The Resistance had caused chaos throughout the Empire, and everything was lost. Kan, the King, was dead. With Malick, the black priest, defeated, trapped within the magical barrier of the mystical Zi Temple, the Empire was in a standstill. Left with no clear heir to the throne, the order of the government was gone. With a sudden realization, the people realized...there was opportunity. For power. For wealth. For control. The struggle for power had begun.

Chapter 1

100 A.F. (After Fall)

"This is a really BAD idea. This is crazy. Sofiah, you're already wanted by Os Ali, Mavisa, Soqchilar, and Veados, and you know very well that Alisandra will take no hesitation in burning you to the stake or selling you to a Mavisan blood fiend!"

"I had to get out of those wretched tunnels...you don't know what it's like in there, Mikey! They won't listen to reason! They're an obsessed cult that rambles about the Ashen Royalan, the leader risen anew from the blood of the nation, the descendant of Kan! I'm not their leader, I'm their prisoner! Veados has the leadership to rule with fairness and regality, I know it! But Brother is denying the truth! He's been lead astray by Alisandra! He flowers her with gifts and sweets that are rare even in the finest parts of the Soqchilar holds" Sofiah whispered urgently. "Look, Sofiah. I'm already risking my life just helping you escape. But I can't, I CAN'T steal the sacred Verlins of Solucionadores de Delincuencia", he suddenly lowered to a whisper barely hearable by humankind, "Sofiah...I'm here because Solucionadores de Delincuencia has mutual peace, filled with knowledge and staying in isolation, not because it will restore The Empire". He sighed with exasperation. "Fine. But when we all get sent on trial, don't blame me." "Thank you!!!!!" Sofiah exclaimed in a silent tone, and hugged Mikey with a grin, "These will show him that he has reason and knowledge inside of him!", but her grin suddenly faded as she saw Mikey's grim expression. "What?" Sofiah asked skeptically. "Umm...logic and reason might not be enough to...disenchant Harrison" Mikey answered with a grimace, "There have been rumors...that...Alisandra may not have a mere man's service in her power...". Sofiah gasped, "No...". "Shh, Sofiah! But yes, it's true...Alisandra is the sacred Sorceress of the Dark Lord. Now, let's go commit the crime of a lifetime."

Chapter 2

8 hours later

I couldn't move, but I must, as if the sea itself was pulling me. It's voice, strong and unbreakable, calling me. Beckoning me. "Sofiah! Snap out of it", a voice distant, unappealing. But somehow, I knew I must answer. The light disappeared, and I cried for the loss of it. I mumbled in protest as Mikey dragged my arm towards the door leading to the outside of Solucionadores de Delincuencia's fortress. He suddenly turned and faced me, "Sofiah, what happened back there? You were frozen, mumbling as if somebody were there in the light.", he said with irritation. I turned to look at were I had stood. I gasped. There was broken glass everywhere, and the stench of blood was overwhelming. As I struggled to remember what happened, glimpses of memories came back. Swords clashing, shouting. We had been stealing The Verlin, the sacred documents telling of the Royal Vita, the wars and events that had led to the Rise of the Empire, and told the tales of the Empire's rule. The Verlin were full of secrets, hidden knowledge and history, and many would kill to have it at hand. And it is for that very reason that Solucionadores de Delincuencia, who call themselves the keepers of reason and knowledge, have it in their grasp. The Verlin could convince my brother that regality and reason are needed to restore the Empire, and would bring back the the man he used to be, to the person who was fit to rule. Unfortunately, we hadn't expected The Verlin to be protected by glass, and we had accidentally triggered an alarm. "Look, Sofiah. I don't know what happened back there, but we need to get moving. More will come soon.", Mikey stated with urgency. "Okay, let's go. We'll head west, and keep to the Vy Forest. We should get to Veados in a fortnight." I answered with a false confidence. As we started to enter the forest, I spoke to Mikey with hesitation. "Mikey...thank you. You've done so much, and you're a criminal now. Why do you do this f-Mikey?" I suddenly cried out. He was gone. Everything was gone. All there were were trees, foggy and unknown, as if I was looking through a smudged looking glass. There was no sound, no touch. I felt that pull, that call of light beckoning me. "Why, why, hello, Sofiah. I am glad you accepted my invitation. Watching the world burn is unmissable." I knew that calm, soothing, beautiful voice. It called to me with false innocence.
Alisandra.
