I see a lot of people on OldCP ask what the purpose of the chat is, when you can just talk on OldCP. Well, here I'm going to explain what I've discovered the chat to be useful for. So read on to learn how to properly use the chat.
1.) To contact people not in the specific room you in. Sometimes when you log on, you may want to meet someone on the game, but you aren't sure if they are online, and you don't have them added on OldCP. Assuming they have an account on Xat (The server which hosts OldCP), or have changed their name so others can identify them, this will let you know if they are on the game or not, since the chat is embedded to the game. *Note* Just because you don't see their specific username doesn't mean they aren't online. They may just not be registered and have an auto-name. If you do see them, you can talk to them on the main chat, or you can click them and press private chat to discuss with them privately so you can meet up with them on the game and chat from there.
2.) You can contact moderators/administrators directly. Sometimes when you're having a problem, or want to report someone for breaking the rules or disturbing you, the response won't be automatic and you find yourself having to wait to get the problem solved. If you scroll down on the chat, all the people with gold or white pawns, are moderators or admins. If you say their name on main, or private chat them and tell them your problem, this may help you solve your problem quicker.
3.) You can talk with friends, without having to be on the game. Sometimes when you don't feel like talking over other people's messages, or enduring lag, or just want to get off the game, you can talk over the chat instead. Simple, and probably not as fun, but still effective!
There are probably more uses of the chat, and the more you are on it the more interesting things you may find out about, but I think I highlighted the main points. Hope you enjoy!
