My do not own the hunger games franchise!
PART 1 THE REAPING
I still have dreams of Katniss Everdeen. I remember seeing her sing one day at school, I had a crush on her ever since. Her family is really poor. I heard Katniss's father died in the mines, so now she takes care if her little sister Prim, and also her mother. I finally wake up on reaping day. I sleep on the mattress on the floor. My mother likes my two older brothers the best, so they share a bed. I hope I don't get picked, because there is no chance any of my brothers would volunteer for me. I was the first awake. The smell of pastries filled the air. I went across the room into the kitchen, still in my pajamas. "What's that smell?" I ask. "Don't even think about it, Peeta!" My mom snared. "These are for our guests!" "I saved you a loaf of bread!" Great. Thus is my life. I work a 8 hour shift decorating cakes, and I get this treatment. I'd have better luck finding food in the woods! I start cleaning the tables, and I ask "who is visiting?" "The Everdeens" my mom says. My jaw dropped. I had never seen Katniss since she was out in front of my house, and I threw her bread. I saved her life. My stomach turned. I had a crush on this girl since second grade and I never even talk to her! "Hurry! Time reaping is in 10 minutes!" Mom yells. I take a quick shower, get dressed and head outside with two of my brothers. Soon, the siren sounded, so I went into a line with all the other boys my age group. The peace keepers take a blood sample to prove I am from district twelve, and I hurry to my spot. I look around and see Katniss. She looks like she is saying something, but she is talking to Gale. I don't have enough time to be jealous, Effie is speaking. I pay attention the the stage, and Effie does a speech. Then it is time to pick who gets to die in this years hunger games! And of course, "ladies first!" She reads this little slip of paper. "Primrose Everdeen" Effie says in the microphone. Oh my goodness! Her sister! I want to interrupt, but I decide to shut up and stay out of trouble. Then, I see Katniss running. For her sister. "I volunteer!" She screams! "I volunteer as tribute!" Katniss walked up the stairs, I saw her shaking from where I was standing!
After that chaos, it was time to pick out a young gentleman who was willing to die. "Peeta Mellark" Effie shouts. I don't hesitate. I mean, who would volunteer for me? I walk up and shake Katniss's hand. Everybody is showing the mockingjay symbol. There is silence.
