IS FATHER REALLY YOUR SON?

Father (or "shaun") is the director of the Institute: the "enemy" that has divided the Comonwealth for centuries (according to the factions). When you enter the Institute (either you enter with the help of the minutemen, BOS or Railroad) you enter an elevator. Then you meet a young variant of "Shaun" but techincally it's a synth. Then Father comes and starts blabbering about you being his dad/mom
The question is: Is Father your son? Or is he a liar that's trying to make you work for the Institute and be with a black synth?
