Hello there!
I feel like right now, movie sequels are just cashgrabs. Look at it this way, so many movies or series in general, ended so perfectly theres no reason to make a sequel. Take Toy Story as an example, it didn't end on a cliffhanger. It does not need a sequel, it ended perfectly. Yet for some reason, they're making a fourth, it's been years... It's the same issue with the Lego Movie, the Lego Movie ended just fine, I mean yeah there was that kitten thing which was kind of a cliffhanger, but no one expects that to go anywhere. We all thought it was more of a jokey ending, and the serious ending had already happened. Keep in mind how long ago the Lego Movie was, all the little kids who it captivated are older now, and not really interested in a lego movie like that. They might still watch it for nostalgia, because it's the greatest human weakness but, not really for the plot. It's the same thing with lots of stories. One final example i'll give you because, I don't wanna bore you. Harry Potter, it ended, perfectly fine, even the 19 years later wrapped it all up. Now, they made the Cursed Child screenplay, which was as we all know not because they cared about the characters, because they wanted Nostalgic adults who saw these characters in books and movies when they were little, and would pay hundreds of dollars to see a broadway show about the potterverse. If they truly care about their characters, they should let them end. They should let the rest be decided by fanfiction, and speculators and never answer the questions people have. And then maybe, a couple years later give the character like a chameo in a movie or something in the same universe to well, bring hype and let people be happy. The only way to fufill a characters legacy, is to at one point end it.
Thank you for listening to my TED™ talk.
