I am aware that talkin' 'bout the whole Apple vs. Android thing in USA is dangerous and it's a taboo topic. However, here, in Europe the situation is significantly different, which eggsplains why y'all, Americans, prefer Apple. A lot of people own Androids and they have proved over and over again to be superior and are, shall I say, more popular than Apple. Not to mention, more original as well, due to the fact that most smartphone brands use Android as their cellphones' operatin' systems.
it was only hypothetical

If we are speaking about mobile, then I'd say Android is better.
Honestly, Apple is not as good as people think it is. It's pretty overrated, to be honest, because an iPhone is not just a phone, it's a status symbol, it indicates the wealth and social status of the person who owns the phone.
For software, iOS is better than Android, it has been tested a lot and users like it very much, but when we speak of hardware... Android is better, it has a simpler software and it does not overrun the hardware (as iOS does), so, after all, combining software and hardware, I say:
Android wins.
