Hello all,

Today Damen announced that he will be disbanding the Penguin Watch on 01/01/2020. As he said this, a shock of disbelief immediately struck through me. In all my time on oldcp, the Penguin Watch has been a very major part of the community. I have given this decision much thought, and I have decided to come here and share my personal opinions on this disbanding. I understand that Damen has made the choice, and for good reason. Although I would like to share my thoughts on the matter. If you'd like, feel free to share yours as well. I'm not saying that I'm 100% right but I've got an opinion on the matter. Please don't come after me yall.

When I joined this game in late 2015, everyone wanted to be Moderator. It was by far the most sought after rank, and many many MANY people sought after acquiring it. I was one of those noobs who wanted to do everything possible to get mod. It was my dream. I spent hours and days and months and YEARS trying to achieve this role. Now, I'm not here trying to whine about being a poor little penguin who never got what she wanted. I truly wasn't the best person back then, and probably wouldn't have made the greatest moderator. Although, every single time I asked someone how I can improve or have a better chance at mod there was one consistent answer. Everyone always said, "If you really want to be mod, you have to take all the steps first. You should apply for Penguin Watch!"

Throughout those two years, I was actively playing this game daily. I had my highs and lows, and watched so many people go from being a brand new user til they were a moderator. What was one of the major steps? Penguin Watch. Especially Penguin Watch Captain. Nearly every single person that was PWC became Moderator, which was the biggest deal ever. After all, it included being a Mod right? Instant popularity back then. Eventually, the role of Mod became way too much for lots of people. It was a very demanding job, and you received a lot of hate as a moderator. So what did those Mods immediately want to do? Become PWC if possible. There seemed to be nothing more exciting than leading a group of underdogs who are reaching to become better. Being a Penguin Watch Member you were taking those first steps to greatness on your oldcp journey.

Now, I do see why Damen wants to disband the Penguin Watch. Maybe my passion for the Penguin Watch comes from it being my dream rank for the last three years. But I truly do believe we just need to reunlock the potential the Penguin Watch Brotherhood truly holds. Here is a list of potential changes I believe we could make to improve the watch:

1) New leaders!! Truly devoted users who are passionate about the watch and helping to improve users. We need active individuals who are very set on leading this group and consistently holding meetings and such. I can think of a few individuals who would be INCREDIBLE at reviving the watch.

2) Stricter activity rules for the Penguin Watch. Many have complained about the inactivity of not only the Penguin Watch Captains, but the Penguin Watch in general. Being a Penguin Watch is a great duty, even if you don't receive fame for it.

3) Bimonthly Penguin Watch review. The Penguin Watch Captains can evaluate each member of the watch twice a month and see if they are still meeting a certain list of criteria to make sure they are active, working well, and a variety of other things.

These are a few of my recommendations for the watch. I understand Damen's decision, but I truly believe that if we get great leaders and establish new guidelines for the watch it can truly be better than ever. I know this is a long post, as Damen once said, I am a very wordy person. If the watch should stay, which I believe it should, I would be more than happy to help the new Captains, even if i wasn't a captain myself.

Thank you for reading this whole thing if you did. Feel free to share you opinions or suggestions or whatever you want(maybe memes idk) down below. I never know how to end discussions so like......yeehaw?

Bye folks, Breee

Awesome ideas, I agree. Just because the prior PWC's were inactive and didn't take on their responsibilities, doesn't mean you should banish it completely from the entire game. I recommend you hire someone like Joseph, a former PWC and a current PWC helper, as the SPWC. He could for sure re-build the PW team and decide on making Captains that fit the role and take on the job.

1. Damen legit wiped out the leadership and never had a vote to determine new leadership, so good luck with trying to find new people. Also, all the people who care about oldcp only care about it for CZ, they don't care about the PW, so they won't really care about saving its ass.

2. "Stricter Activity Rules" in an age where the only reason people come on oldcp anymore is to wait for CZ, no PW is going to moderate when there's no CZ. Strict Activity Rules will probably not even be enforced by whoever ends up leading. Same with Penguin Watch review.

Honestly, PW being removed was a long time coming. It's been relatively useless for awhile. Moderators will do all the work (since half the userbase is one). I know you're very passionate about the PW, but it's time to let go honestly.

I'm sadly agreeing with this. There is just not enough users anymore for the Penguin Watch to have a purpose...It was a great thing but there's too many moderators and it doesn't make sense to have undercover moderators as well.

Bree, long time no see! Keep your head up always.

If Damen did that, it's HIS game. He can call the shots.

Even if the Penguin Watch was active, we got killed off by there being too many Moderators and that's what took the spotlight away from the group. Everyone online was 2/3 Moderators and 3/3 ranked so there was really nothing for them to moderate. If we had less Moderators and made ranks more for their purpose and not for their kick command, maybe the Penguin Watch could actually have a purpose again. People are saying "it's useless" and yeah I get that, but we're describing how it can not be useless and nothing gets done. I just don't get where our voice has gone, I guess it fell on deaf ears.
