1. It is an event in which a LEADER of a few teams is competing for the rank of Moderator. There are plenty of good moderators - and most of them can be chosen by a formal application rather than a silly set of games to chose who's going to become a moderator.

2. You are choosing a fit moderator over some party games that have next to nothing to do with being a moderator. You could say, we pick the suitable mods at the end - but, then why have games in the first place? Just make a vacancy for it and have people who are suitable apply intelligently to prove that they are indeed a good pick for the role of Moderator.

3. Not everyone has time to set aside to get online to play club penguin for several hours to moderate, in fact, the entirety of the moderator rank as a whole is just a waste of time. Why in the hell does a club penguin game need at least a fourth of it's players be moderators?

Not only that; let's look at the moderator list alone.
Raindrop - RARELY plays the game. They have done nothing. Why are they ranked at all?
Majorhalo - He, too, rarely plays the game, and has done next to nothing, except the few things he has done have been pretty overlookable. I'm not saying he's a bad person, I'm just saying he shouldn't be such a high rank.
Sled - They're arguably okay. Granted; they, too, have a lot on their hands, and a lot to put up with. Not only that, but much like Damen himself, they have a strong bias.
Damen - Owner of the game. But even then, the things he does as owner. BANNING SOMEONE on their FORUMS ACCOUNT for KILLING AN IN-GAME EMPEROR is flat out ignorance. There are many things he's doing wrong, but there's no use in telling him, because he won't listen anyways, lest you pay him $30 for a few in-game assets. You can buy 2 fully made Steam games for $30 and probably keep them longer than you will what you're getting from him.
Lloyd720 - Should not be a moderator. He does a good job on the forums, but when it comes to the game, he's a wise. He's not contributing anything to "moderate" the game. He was only given the rank by Damen once again by pure bias.
Rouge11 - I have never seen this person even slightly moderate. Why are they still a moderator? They're a good person, don't get me wrong, but when it comes to the game, they aren't contributing in the slightest as a moderator.
Julianhak - Rarely online. Barely contributes anything as a MODERATOR. He's a great person and does his job as a Lord of Death well, but he shouldn't be a moderator if he's not going to moderate.
iBlue - Good activity, but I've rarely seen them do their job as a Moderator. They rule an island...so why are they a Moderator??? They could do just as good without the role of Moderator.
Loki - Good activity, and does their job as a moderator. You may not like them as much but they do their job well.
Jenna - I've barely seen them do their job or moderate. Shouldn't be a moderator.
HamilHelp - Rarely online, they did their job to begin with but I don't think they deserve the role; at least, not until they come back to the game more frequently.
Chelsey - I haven't seen this person online ever. They shouldn't be a moderator. Only given a rank due to the bias of Damen.
Orlock - Not only is he rarely ever online, he rules an island, and he is literally invincible, once again due to Damen's bias.
Joseph - Good activity, does their job well.
randy - They're a good person, but they shouldn't be a moderator, as they really only come online to do revival jousts before leaving.
Wilfred - Why is he a moderator? He's a good person, a good knight, but he shouldn't be a moderator.
Zpheal - Good activity, and does their job okay, but why are they a moderator? They rule an island, that's the only reason they're ranked.
CPBiter - Good activity and does their job well.
LloydX - Wait, why does the same person HAVE 2 MODERATOR ACCOUNTS?

In all honesty, all of these people are good people, but when it comes to business, it makes no sense as to why most of them have Rank 3. You shouldn't even need this many moderators. Knights, yes.

4. The Moderator rank as a whole is a bad idea. Why do you ban people for swearing when IT'S CENSORED IN THE GAME ANYWAYS? Acro-swearing is arguable, but even then, you could just as easily have a knight kick them, and report it to maybe a FEW moderators to take care of the problem. Also, maybe, you could have a system that, I don't know, DETECTS THE ACRO SWEAR, AND KICKS THEM AUTOMATICALLY, AND BANS THEM AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS? Not only is it more efficient, it works better all around.

Just a thought.

I respectfully disagree with you on many things.

1. Every member of the team has the same chance of winning, not just the leader. And this is a very fun way to obtain the rank. I haven't met a single person besides myself who enjoys writing. Most of the applications are denied anyways.
2. The 'games' are actually tasks that revolve around the moderator rank. Their purpose is to let the staff see how certain people act when under pressure.
3. The game has died. Users used to outnumber the mods. And that's what months are for, you don't have to spend hours a day, you can just spend an hour a day each month. You still meet criteria for the rank and a mod's wanted activity is only 16 hours.

Let's go over your list- Lloyd is an excellent staff member. He earned the rank and he was allowed to keep his wise rank. He's kind and he's hardworking. iBlue is almost always online. He does his job. Chelsey does a lot of work behind the scenes and in discord. She's the Head Moderator. She does much more than you think. Hour also earned his rank. Just because someone owns an island doesn't mean they deserve demotion, they earned it fair and square through wars.

4. The rank of Moderator came about when the game first opened because it is a children's game. Seeing as all you talk about here is swearing and that's your only reason why the rank should be removed, there are plenty other rules. Don't be inappropriate, don't cause drama, don't threaten others, don't bully, etc. Speaking as a former Mod myself, there are many things people turn a blind eye to and it's up to the staff to keep the game a place where people feel safe. Before you reply with 'it's just a penguin game', many people treat this place as a safe-haven that they can come to in order to escape their personal issues.

This was in no way/shape/form intended to be rude or disrespectful, I'm just saying that before you go off and judge, actually experience it. Because honestly, I have absolutely no idea who you are.
But good post, I respect your opinions.

You have to realize there is not much to moderate anymore. Also, the point of GOM is to have fun, and as a judge last year, it’s all based on who showed the most leadership skills and who the Moderators all agree to work with because they think they’ll do a great job. No one wants to play a boring event for Moderator.

I agree that the staff team can be questionable but that's what GOM is for, to add or give other users a chance to become moderator and change the staff team. Also moderators aren't just needed for banning people because of swearing but moderators are also needed to help new users or help regulate the community and deal with reports from current users.

Though I have no knowledge of how the game is currently running and how the staff team is, I know they are needed for more than just banning. (maybe we don't need a big staff team as you listed since the userbase is small). It's good to share your constructive criticism with the current moderators though.

Also, if you have a problem with Damen alatar tell me why you keep giving him money then if you can "buy 2 steam games" with 30 dollars. lol

yes, our moderators have to work on paying attention to the entire room. it's easy to miss things though if there's a lot going on. none of them are terribly bad in my opinion, they all deserve the rank and are trusted/very lovely users in our community. they are doing this job out of the will of wanting to do it - they aren't trained professionals and I don't expect absolute perfection from them, but as much as they can do for us to help keep the game safe/rules protected, we appreciate & reward them for it. We look at what people are saying and we just recently appraised them and told them what they can do better.

also in GOM you don't need to be a leader to win. I wasn't the leader of the Crime Solvers and I won in series 9. A lot of the tasks are based on teamwork which is something you need to be able to do as moderator. Others are just for fun and that's okay too - we are here to have fun after all.

I have a few things to discuss regarding your points, some I agree with and some I disagree with...

For years, the tradition of GOM has always been a major part of our community and is one of the many things that makes our server special and different from all of the other private servers/remakes available today. Firstly, the leaders are not the only ones who are being observed for the rank, they just took the time and effort to put together a band of users to compete as a team so they all have a chance to be observed. Just because you are a leader does not mean that you have higher chances of being selected over others, there have been many GOM's over the span of the last 8 years that have had non-leaders selected to the Moderation Team.

Secondly, these are not just "party games" that have no meaning at all, they're activities to test the users on their ability to follow orders, collaborate with team members (as you would with the Moderation team), and show their quick reaction and abilities to show that they can handle in-an-instant scenarios and problems. These skills cannot really be proven in the game with an application. Anyone can write a well-thought-out and nicely structured application but can have terrible skills and be crap at their job.

Third, if you don't have the time to compete in the competition then you probably don't have the time to be a moderator. It's a job that requires several hours a day worth of work, and you need to be able to make sure that you have a few hours set outside of your daily routine to fulfill your duties on the game.

And in regards to the list of moderators, most of these people are doing things behind the scenes. Yeah, sure, there are some moderators that are not active that should 100% be active, but that's something that Damen and the administration needs to examine and be able to determine if they believe that moderator is still fit for the job or not. Some of these moderators are very active, you probably just don't see them when they are on, and most of them have ranks that involve fighting on ALTs, or their main accounts, so if they're in a room where a bunch of fighting is going on and normal users arent allowed on, you probably won't see them.

Hope you can take into consideration what I have said.
Have a nice night.

As Zen, I will also disagree with you many aspects of what you said.

1) GOM is a competition and as Zen has mentioned, every member has the same chances of winning. Many times, a member of the team won GOM instead of the team leader. The objetive of GOM is not only to find a new Moderator, it's also an event and many people compete just for fun.

2) If you look through the previous GOMs, you will see that all the tasks involve moderating skills. The objective of the tasks is to evaluate people on situations that Moderators go through often. I strongly believe that GOM is an excellent idea due to this, it's not only about selecting a specific Moderator, as I said before, but it also evaluates other users, and, perhaps, they will become a Moderator in the future.

3) The userbase is very small currently, but the game is getting a bit more active now due to quarantine across the world. No one is obligated to play the game for days, Mods just need to be online for 15 hours per month, which isn't much, in my opinion.

4) Be careful with your generalizations. If you haven't seen a moderator doing his/hers job, it doesn't mean that the Moderator never does it. Your observations only represent a limited time and space and you can't make a generalization out of that so easily. Another important thing, being an island ruler doesn't make you a Moderator. Ian is the current Cobia Governor and he isn't a Moderator, for example. If someone happens to be an island ruler and Moderator, it's because they earned the rank and the land. Of course that being a good island ruler requires some qualities expected from a Moderator, but after all it's just a coincidence.
I'll try to remain neutral on your criticism against the Staff, including myself, but I must say that almost all the Moderators from the list are doing their jobs well, with just one or two exceptions. Also, I have 2 accounts because one has died. If an OldCP Administrator sees this, please demote LloydX, I'm using my main (Lloyd720) now.

5) Being a Moderator isn't only about punishing users when they swear. There are many occasions in which users bully others without cussing and a Moderator is necessary to intervene. Moderating is also about helping users, especially the new ones. Moderators receive reports, help users, ensure that people are not pulling their weapons in public (unless it's self-defense or orders). Summing up, OldCP rules are not only about swearing and inappropriate behaviors, it's about much more than that, thus, having Moderators is a good idea.

Just my thoughts, I appreciate your feedback and I hope you understand what I said.

I mean, I can clearly see the point you're trying to make in your argument. I guess GOM is an event that is not for everybody. Personally, I think it's just a fun way to give a user a chance to be apart of the staff team. I totally get where you're coming from about how Moderators can be chosen by formal applications, I strongly agree with that. For some though, they may not be the best when it comes to writing an application since it can be rather difficult for people to express themselves through words. This is why people choose to do GOM because it's an easier way to show their creative attributes, abilities, and knowledge of the game. I also want to thank you for the remark that you made. I'm happy to see that in your eyes I am doing my job well. :D

Game of Mods has been a tradition for years now, I'm sure it's not gonna go away just like that. It's also gonna make the game active and give people something to do during quarantine. And the staff team is pretty okay from what I'm seeing, I just think some inactive mods should be demoted.
