Hello, this is more of a technical issue than a bug but nonetheless, it should still be reported. The incident that caused me to report this happened yesterday early morning. Sorry for not reporting it earlier as I was working on the time to formulate thoughts.

The Issue
When you join Oldcp, you are taken to the most popular room unless you have "The Introvert" transform. So when someone AFKs in the Penguin Watch Room and few users are on, not being a Penguin Watch or a Penguin Watch Captain makes it so you can not join.


This is obviously an issue as no one would be able to join a server unless they are PW or have the transform mentioned above. I know, the only way for this to happen is early morning at 5 AM when 2 users are on but this could lead to some serious damage to the Penguin Watch.

1. A leak could occur.
2. Someone could pose as a PWC and DM these users certain things to know more PW members
3. Users that also want to grind time for POTM would not be able to join the server.
4. Users from a certain TimeZone that want to hangout on Oldcp would not able to join.

The Leak Incident
I was up at 5 AM EST when I could not join due to that message. I joined eventually as someone had the Introvert transform and did /allusers and /activity. This allowed me to easily figure out who the Penguin Watch member is. This actually had happened earlier too, and I got another Penguin Watch demoted. If you are reading this and did not know it was me, I am sorry but this was a clear abuse of your powers. You should know better.

I have also found a Penguin Watch Captain do this, dayton. In addition to doing this, they had the confrontation with this user in the Penguin Watch room instead of DMs allowing for it to be /popular once again.

The Solutions
1. Administrators make it so by default, joining when the PW room is popular will send that person to the town.

2. Penguin Watch Captains actually warn their Penguin Watch when this happens. I do not know this if this still happens as I have not checked but I am fairly sure PWCs knew this was happening and did not take many actions. If it took 2 demotions for this to finally happen then clearly you do not realize seriously this leak could have been.

3. Give Penguin Watch their own server. The Penguin Watch Room apparently is a hangout/cafe style place so if they do want to hang out, they should take it to another server. If this is not a hangout/cafe place, why did this happen in the first place?

The Conclusion
I do not mean to stir any drama from this post. It is not meant to attack the Penguin Watch because if I wanted to do that, I would have leaked instead of reported. It is more of a technical issue. I do feel like there should be a more severe punishment such as a rank-ban but I do not think that could happen.

I would like to help the PW more in preventing leaks like this so DM me if I can help. I strongly suggest a PW vacancy open up as you lost 2 valuable members who have been highly ranked in the past.

You've reported this to the Penguin Watch & we've dealt with the issue.

I will admit this issue has been ongoing and I've recently just been made captain so I promise that I will speak with Scott & the others about this. We've implemented multiple rules made to prevent this in the future, including rules that were implemented a while back. You've also messaged me on discord privately and warned me about this which I appreciate because most of us forgot about this issue. We've also dealt with the recent users and will make sure that this doesn't happen in the near future.

Another thing I'd like to mention is your suggestions. Both were implemented to secure the privacy of the watch. Although the Penguin Watch server was removed because it wasn't used much. This means that I will suggest it to be re-added for future meetings to prevent any leaks. We will stay in contact with the administrators about this suggestion because it'd benefit the watch.

This issue has happened before according to Dayton and nothing happened when they warned. Clearly, the Penguin Watch Captains could not take action. Making this post public allows for PW to read this and know about these 2 methods. These are very easy methods to prevent once the Penguin Watch know about this.

Once again, it is very easy to prevent this from happening once the PW knows about it. They can not chill in the PW cafe until it is fixed.

I’ll be taking the appropriate precautions during all of this. I have already started changing things around, and I sincerely appreciate you bringing this topic/issue up.

Again, thank you. I’ll try my best to work alongside both the PWC & PW to ensure that this doesn’t happen ever again. I’ll also inform administration on getting the PW server back, a server I’ve been asking to return for quite a long time... that should also prevent this, hopefully!
