Back in the day, when Mother and Father Vulture roamed free and Vultures good and evil dominated the skies and frequented the Black City on Das as well as Ach-to, the shinobi and the vultures had a little understanding. Neither group would do harm to the other and they would both leave each other alone. That all changed one day, when a shinobi almost ate a vulture egg as a scrambled egg, he had mistaken it as being a regular old chicken egg. He was very wrong.
The parents of the egg witnessed the shinobi about to crack open the close to hatching child and flew down to peck the man. They pecked him until he started weeping and begging for mercy. Finally, the relented. They warned him that the shinobi were now fair game for the vultures to feast on and terrorize.
At first, the shinobi thought the vultures were not serious with their warning and did not take any heed of it. Mekiro was the first shinobi to learn just how serious the vultures were. One day Mekiro and some young shinobi children were walking through a territory that was dominated by Mother Vulture. Mother Vulture had heard of the shinobi who almost ate a vulture egg and as she had eggs of her own that she was hatching to be the next generation of evil warriors for the Dark Lord Pythas, she decided to carry Mekiro off.
She swooped down and grabbed Mekiro off the ground with her powerful talons. The children watched, both terrified and amused. She flew him a long way, Mekiro thought he was about to be eaten by this large bird. He screamed and begged for mercy. Mother Vulture enjoyed listening to the shinobi's screams and decided that this once, she would show mercy. She flew him over a lake and dropped him into it from a great height. She didn't care if he knew how to swim, if he didn't it was too bad for him.
Mekiro was dropped from a height of about 200 feet into the lake. Luckily for him, he knew how to swim. He swam to shore and started his days long trek back to the Shinobi Order. He informed them all of what had happened to him, others had reported similar experiences as well as occurrences of vultures stealing their valuable items. A few shinobi had disappeared and were never seen again, they were assumed to have been eaten by the vultures, but it was never confirmed.
It was from then on that the Shinobi started to hate and fear the vultures.
Below is a real picture of Mother Vulture carrying off Mekiro.
