This edition of Useless Knowledge is about the Statue of Liberty.
The Statue of Liberty is symbolic of many things, such as American Independence, Immigration, Liberty Mutual Insurance, freedom, and hope. But did you know that it is also a symbol of the abolition of slavery in the United States?
The real name of the Statue of Liberty is actually "Liberty Enlightening the World". Of course, many people know that this statue was a gift to the United States from France. The man who created it, Édouard de Laboulaye, was also moved to gift this symbol of freedom to the United States also to commemorate the abolition of slavery. The end of slavery is symbolized by the statue by having a broken shackle and chains at the foot of Lady Liberty.
