Life was normal as usual. Get out of bed. Eat breakfast. Put my clothes on. Brush my teeth. Get my backpack. Wait for the bus. Get on the bus. Deal with screaming buffoons, throwing gum and paper planes. Get off the bus. Go to school. Eat lunch. Get back on the bus. More screaming people, gum, and paper planes. Get off the bus. Walk home. Get home. Lie on the couch for 15 minutes. Get off the couch. Walk to my room. Get to my room. Start homework. Go to the kitchen. Eat supper. Finish supper. Go back to my room. Finish homework. Practice clarinet for 20 minutes. Finish practicing. Watch TV. Get into pajamas. Brush my teeth. Go to bed. Sleep. Yup. Nothing interesting there.
As I walked to the bus stop, some kids in my class kept talking about a huge test. I was getting a bit anxious. What test? For what subject? I don't remember hearing about a test coming up. Hmm. Think Mason. Think. Think Harder. .... Nope. I got nothin'. "Hey guys," I said. "Oh, hey Mason," Nate said. "What's up, Mason?" Mike asked. "Oh, nothing. So, I heard you guys talking about some test. What test?" I questioned. "Oh, it's the test in Pre-Algebra. Don't you remember? Mr. Boudreau made it quite clear that it counted as half of our grade," Nate pointed out. "Well, I guess I wasn't paying attention. When is it?" I asked. "It's on Friday next week," Matt answered. "Okay, thanks guys."
I tried to focus really hard in Pre-Algebra so that I was prepared for the upcoming test, but there was always something distracting me at one point that I couldn't get out of my head. I didn't know what it was, so I tried not to think about it. I wanted to finish every worksheet that I was given so that I had more time to focus on the test directly, without anything else getting in the way. As soon as I completed my last sheet, Mr. Boudreau interrupted. "So, Mason, you think you're ready for the test?" Great, another distraction. "Umm, I guess so," I answered hesitantly. "Have you been taking time to study?" he asked. "Yes, I have," I said quickly so the conversation would go by faster. "Good. You know it's worth half of your grade, right?" he mentioned. "Ugh, don't remind me," I murmured. "What's that?" Mr. Boudreau questioned. "Oh, nothing!" I said sarcastically. "Just keep studying," he said. "I will," I concluded. As soon as I was about to study, the bell rang, and I wish it didn't.
As soon as I got home, I immediately got my Pre-Algebra supplies out of my book bag, until I was bothered by my little sister, Emily. "What do you want, Emily?" I asked harshly. "Can you play Barbie with me?" she asked. "No, I'm busy," I answered. "Please?" she insisted. "No!" I exclaimed. As usual, she stuck out her bottom lip while making doggy eyes, whimpering. "Just because it looks and sounds cute doesn't mean I'm going to play with you," I confirmed. "FINE! Be that way!" she shouted. She stormed out of my room and slammed the door. "Finally," I thought. "Now I can study for once."
