I don't think sugar makes you fat entirely but I definitely think its bad for you. Not only is sugar more addictive than actual street drugs, but cancer cells are able to feed off of and grow out of sugar. (not sure if you have to already have cancer for that to be applicable but it could possibly be without) I'd say don't try to stay away from sugar entirely but consume in moderation!

Personally, as someone who has struggled with things related weight/eating in general here is my advice. You will always lose weight as long as you create a calorie deficient by finding your BMR. Whatever you BMR is you subtract 400-500 calories from that and that's how much you can eat per day. As long as you don't surpass that amount of calories you can pretty much eat whatever you want and still lose weight, but obviously if you eat healthier and exercise you will naturally lose even more.

Maybe.. I'm not probably not though I'm pretty sure its just because coffee makes you use the bathroom, so you just may be losing temporary scale weight.
