Not to be a buzzkill but people weren't hating on Damen as much for checking mail, but for leaking private conversations with users and putting them on blast for the whole community to see....
hey, that's a different situation from what we're talking about i think :) there was more that happened afterwards regarding him not checking his mail but it's more of a private thing between him and sled now.

Posted in Jaden is an Amazing Head Moderator • 13th August 2020, 04:57 AM

Here goes a very necessary post highlighting the amazing work Jaden has done as Head Moderator, and continues to do!

Things he's done to help us:
  • Brought back the strike system (which was highly requested)
  • Held votes among Moderators for BOS users, as per tradition
  • Created an extensive guideline for users who are interested in becoming Moderator
  • Often consulted with the staff team to find out what he can improve on
  • Wrote an entire 6-page document (with Brit) to teach new Moderators everything there is to know about moderating
  • Created a system in which staff members are given another random staff member (in a similar fashion to Secret Santa) to compliment and give polite constructive criticism to each month, in order to bring the team closer together

Jaden is constantly thinking about bringing more to the table. He is always looking after the team, and puts a lot of effort into making sure everyone is getting along and feeling ok.

Here's an example of King Head Mod Jaden being the sweetest leader you've ever seen:

What's even more epic is the amount of hard work Jaden puts into the act of moderating itself. According to the ban tracking sheet and my calculations, Jaden takes care of 40 percent of the game's overall bans... DAYUM! That's what being on the POTM leaderboard every month as Moderator gets you ig!

Without ever asking for credit, Jaden ran the entire Honorable Payoff system for me. He counted votes, logged reasons, and consulted with me about potential winners, then kept track of prizes and made announcements for me. Jaden also assisted me in putting together the Senior Rank Reviewal report cards, and assisted the Penguin Watch captains with stations. He's always extending a helping hand without ever asking for anything in return. He has even given his own time to help comfort and listen to members of the community in times of emotional distress.

If you don't see Jaden as one of OldCP's best Head Moderators, what are you doing..? #JADEN4PRESIDENT we love u man

i understand, seriously i do. but people have emotions which is also human, maybe the things that went down today could’ve been handled differently, but regardless it was speaking up to stuff that has gone on for so long. i get being a game owner is hard, and ABSOLUTELY no one is perfect, but sometimes things need to be said and spoken about. maybe less aggressively but spoken about. communication is key. and as a game owner, damen has duties, and not everyone will be happy all the time because things happen, he chose to be a game developer and he does good at it when he cares about it, but honestly sometimes it doesn’t feel like he does. im just saying. no hate towards him at all you know? and yeah the real world is tough

personally, i speak up to damen about a lot of things i think he does wrong. he responds to criticism amazingly. he's always sorry and he always does his best to improve. i get that it's difficult to convey your feelings to damen when his plate is already so full of people trying to contact him, but creating posts or speaking to crowds to publicly shame someone is wrong. everyone was very upset when he did that by using private mail to call people out on what they've done wrong, right? i told him respectfully that it was wrong and he's sorry and promised not to do something like that again. damen has told me that it hurts his feelings very much when someone publicly goes against him instead of telling him in private what he can improve on.

he knows he is bad at communication. he's honestly trying to be better, all the time. he struggles with responding to just me sometimes. however, he's very open with everyone about his feelings and his struggles, which he expresses in his youtube videos. he goes live on youtube and answers the chat for an hour or more at least twice a month. the least we can do is be patient with him and respect how huge his workload is. there are loads of people trying to contact him all the time, and oldcp is only one of his three jobs.

well said. we need to accept each others' imperfections and encourage improvement in a positive way. this applies to anyone—not only damen. there's a huge issue in this community with treating people as nothing more than their "job" or rank in the game. we need to treat each other like humans, because we are simply people behind a computer screen trying our best.

p.s. i'm glad to see you around lately <3

Orbay wrote on 10th August 2020, 04:32 AM:
The reason people, including myself, were angry about the outcome of this wasn't because Sled wasn't permanently demoted or anything of the sort.
It was because people started pointing fingers at ALPHA, Falcon's military, and immediately assumed that he had done it, because "Sled certainly couldn't have done it."
They used the same excuse to accuse Falcon as they did to defend Sled: Lack of evidence.
Even when Falcon did prove legitimate evidence, he was then called a liar.
And when Sled did eventually confess, everyone who was mad about the missile suddenly became sunshine and rainbows, and "your actions don't define you queen!!!!" mode was engaged.
Not only was there bias, there was blatant hypocrisy and double standards.

it's a shame ALPHA was being wrongly accused, but things like history and intent are considered in literally every situation like this when it comes to punishment and general reaction, hence why Sled garnered the response she did. if had Sled nuked the trial because she thought it was funny, or because she wanted to kill innocents, or despite knowing it would kill the entire room, then she would not have had the same reaction from people. this has nothing to do with hypocrisy and double standards. this has to do with considering outside factors. when you consider history and intent, a lot of the anger goes away because now we know that it was simply a foolish mistake and not a planned assault on everyone in the room, because Sled has never had ill intentions before and has always cared for the game and its users. this is the bias DSC is referring to, and there's nothing wrong with it, in my opinion.

as for your example of helping out a friend in a fist fight, it's possible to have bias in these situations while still acting fairly. you say "naturally" you'd help your friend out, but personally i'd do exactly as you said was the correct move: break it up and ask what happened. the bias comes in when you know that your friend feels very negatively towards thieves, or alternatively you know that your friend has a tendency to take things that aren't theirs. from this bias, you'd have a preconceived notion of the situation which is susceptible to change when given further information. that's what DSC is talking about. not blind bias, but the bias that comes with being aware of people's personalities and past. if bias goes too far it's harmful, but otherwise it's not too bad. it's actually something literally everyone has naturally, unless you're Gandhi or something.
