Posted in Making History - GOM • 4th December 2020, 07:28 PM

Hi love,
Another amazing report, per usual!

Honestly, I was happy to have tagged along. I didn't plan on competing, but I'm glad I did for the fun of it. And hey, I won the first task. Honestly, GOMs are pretty amazing. I remember when I would go to every single one of them. I have been on both ends of them, I was competing and I was judging. Regardless, they're always a blast. I will never forget the feelings that went through my entire body when I won the GOM Autumn 2015!

P.S. the ending of my speech ends as such: "if you're ever met with an obstacle just say this to yourself if it is to be, it is up to me!" ;)

Once again fantastic report!

Hi DSGHQ,

I don't normally create many discussions on here anymore unless I truly am devoted to whatever it is I am writing about. In this case, I felt like it was a much-needed discussion. Before I begin to dive into everything that I feel compelled to write, I would simply like to ask for everyone to refrain away from writing any negative commentary, if you do not agree with what I have to say, that is completely fine. However, please be respectful regardless, thank you.

First off, I would like to discuss Bailey. As many of you are likely aware, Bailey and I have been together since March 28th, 2020. Since that day, I can honestly tell you all that Bailey and I have connected on a level I never imagined, and he truly has been a rock for me during some of the darkest times in my life, especially when I was in the process of being kicked out of my home primarily because of my sexuality. He has introduced a mind-set for me that I longed to have, and I couldn't be happier with the person he is.

I feel like in recent months, Bailey has received some backlash within this community for a variety of reasons. Some people truly love Bailey and his entire personality, while on the other hand some individuals simply don't understand or click with Bailey. However, I would simply like to say that Bailey really has been going through a lot recently. His mental health is like a teeter-totter, he has moments of very high-highs, and then moments of shallow-lows.

Bailey was hospitalized back in October towards the beginning. I had noticed changes in his entirety, and at this moment I became quite close to his mother. He was able to make it through this, and he was put on a new medication regimen. Personally, Bailey improved greatly in my eyes. He took up group therapy and was on the road to recovery. I was incredibly proud of him, and I stuck by his side throughout the entirety of everything that had been happening to him. He's definitely stronger than he is made aware of by his own opinions, and I commend him on his victories.

Recently over the weekend, I brought Bailey to New York to spend the weekend at my house. The first day was amazing, to say the least, and it was very nice to connect with him again. However, on the 28th of this month, I noticed some altercations in his mood/behavior. I could tell that he was definitely going through something again, and I reached out to his mom to give her an update on everything I was evaluating and deciphering. Upon dropping him back home on Sunday, it was made apparent that he definitely needed some further help. His mom messaged me later today explaining to me that she had brought him back to the hospital, and that is all I know as of now.

Before I conclude this information on Bailey, if Bailey does end up reading this discussion I want him to know this. He is an incredibly talented, intelligent, and understanding person. He brings light to a lot of people, especially when they're struggling. He gives some amazing advice, and he doesn't give up. He is committed to helping the people he is invested in, and I personally can not thank him enough for all that he has done for me. We recently celebrated our 8 months, and I couldn't be happier with how everything has turned out. When you truly dive into this community, it is so much more than just a community. Through being here I have met my best friend, Amanda, and I have met who I believe is my soulmate, Bailey I couldn't be happier with all of the countless connections I have made throughout being in this community, and I look forward to continuing to support the DSGHQ and everyone within this close-niche community.

In life, we all encounter obstacles that either make or break us. However, regardless of how we decipher and encounter these obstacles, there is no doubt in my mind that anyone within this community is incapable of persevering through difficult times. This community is full of amazing artists, writers, programmers/coders, photographers, and so much more. Everyone here is all so unique, and it is partially the main reason I absolutely love this community and everything that is within it. Mental health is something that can affect all of here. For some, it can be even through simply knowing someone who is going through mental health issues themselves. Regardless of what position you play within mental health, there's no doubt in my mind that it can truly alter a person deep down.

Mental health includes components of our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It can alter the way in which we think, feel, and act. It will be a determining factor in how we handle stress, relate to those around us, and our decision making. Mental health will affect us through varying stages of life from childhood into adulthood. A variety of factors can contribute to mental health. Let it be biological, life experiences (trauma/abuse), or simply genetics. Regardless, mental health plays a vital role, and it should be spoken about more often.

Early Warning Signs
  • Eating or sleeping too much or too little.
  • Pulling away from people and usual activities.
  • Having low or no energy.
  • Feeling numb or like nothing matters.
  • Having unexplained aches and pains.
  • Feeling helpless or hopeless.
  • Smoking, drinking, or using drugs more than usual.
  • Feeling unusually confused, forgetful, on edge, angry, upset, worried, or scared.
  • Yelling or fighting with family and friends.
  • Experiencing severe mood swings that cause problems in relationships.
  • Having persistent thoughts and memories you can't get out of your head.
  • Hearing voices or believing things that are not true.
  • Thinking of harming yourself or others.
  • Inability to perform daily tasks like taking care of your kids or getting to work or school.

These signs can be detrimental in saving someone from a very dangerous spiral. Have you been experiencing any of these signs, or do you know anyone who might be experiencing these signs? Use this information to your advantage, look out for yourself as well as those around you. You may just be thankful that you did.

Maintaing Positive Mental Health
  • Getting professional help if you need it.
  • Connecting with others.
  • Staying positive.
  • Getting physically active.
  • Helping others.
  • Getting enough sleep. -- in my opinion, this one is huge!
  • Developing coping skills.

Using these techniques/tips may very well help you or someone else, don't be afraid to discuss this with anyone that you believe may very well be going through something. Discussing mental health is vital, and it can really help someone out. Not everyone is educated on mental health, and that's ok, but it is always a great idea to share information whenever possible.

Never give up on yourself or those around you. As I said previously, this community has truly transformed my life. I love every individual within this community, and I couldn't be more thankful for all of the amazing connections I have made along the way of being here. I want all of us to look out for one another, especially considering just how close this community is. You're all capable of amazing things, never doubt yourselves for a second. Take the time to have wellness-breaks, and please be aware of how vulnerable we are as humans. Many of us see ourselves as strong cookies, but even the strongest cookies crumble under certain circumstances. Stay positive, and maintain an optimal living environment. Seek help when needed, and don't be embarrassed. I too struggle with reaching out, but it has saved me more than I ever would've imagined before.

Malorie,

Honestly you have been through so much, and I can't commend you enough for sticking through it. Not only do you have your hands full in life, but you're oftentimes introduced to so much negativity within this community, and you put up with it - as you always have, you're literally so incredibly strong.

It has been a true joy getting to know you, as well as getting to know you more outside of here. Please keep in touch through iMSG and Snapchat, ok? It always brings a smile to my face whenever I get the chance to talk with you, we definitely have to call sometime again! I love you so much Malorie, thank you for always being a real one.

Bailey,

Honestly, this is such an informative discussion, and I commend you for opening up. Your experience will definitely spread light to those who may very well be going through similar situations, perhaps without even knowing it. While reading this I couldn't help but completely understand that this information is vital and important to all of us, especially given the world we live in today.

Social media can be an amazing way to make time go by fast, gain some interesting insights, or simply vent out your frustrations. Regardless though, social media can also be quite damaging in a variety of ways. It can have multiple negative effects on our bodies, and especially our mental health. I agree with you completely that it is a good idea to know your limitations or to simply set your own limits to how much you use social media. I feel like this is a valuable discussion and I'm glad that you created it.

I'm so proud of you, and the person you are. I couldn't picture life without you in it, and I am so glad that I have been able to get to know you on a very personal level. You're incredibly smart, understanding, and always there when I need you. I am so glad to see you're on the right path again and to see that you're doing far better than before. Again, this discussion is amazing and you worded everything perfectly. I love you. <3
