Sled, thank you.
You're doing an amazing job, and to be entirely honest, maintaining being a STRAIGHT A STUDENT all while managing this community, that's astonishing. As TikTok would say, it is astronomical! Seriously, thank you for everything you do for this community, and thank you for always being a tremendously bright light even during difficult and foggy times, the community needs more people like you, Sled. You're a true role-model & legend.

Chelsey, you're amazing - and I love you.
Although we haven't always seen "eye-to-eye" I have so much respect for you. I wish you all the best!

Staff Reset is Necessary

Sam, I have to agree with a great deal of what you're preaching.
As Harrison said, people do have to "adjust", that's just a way of life, however, I don't technically believe the number of people online should alter how to handle situations. Staff should be aware of their commands and how to use them, amongst this, staff should also be fully aware of the new approach method constructed by Damen... regardless of how you feel about it.
Listen, I'll be the first to say moderating OldCP can be cumbersome. Back when I first became Moderator on OldCP I had to look for guidance, I looked towards experienced staff. Staff like Sunwolf, Journey, Tornado, etc - really helped me become a "good Moderator" by my own definition. However, I feel like the OldCP of today doesn't have many "OG Staff", or people who have been on the staff team and OldCP through it all. I personally have experienced a lot of OldCP since 2013 and so forth. I am ALWAYS willing to communicate with anyone, so if any of you have a genuine question or simply don't understand how to handle a particular situation PLEASE message me on Discord or the DSGHQ Forum too. I'd love to assist you!
I do also believe that the staff shouldn't just look forward to the administration giving them the resources they desire. The OldCP administration isn't always available, and I have personally seen them busy (not just talking about the current administration). Sometimes the staff runs to the administration with 1,000 different questions, but in all reality, I feel like people MUST self-educate. Educate yourself on OldCP, ask former staff how it was like being staff, ask for tips and suggestions to better improve your role on OldCP. Yes, I know, it can be difficult to reach out but it is also super vital in being a successful attribution to the staff team, STAND OUT!
With all of that said, I do believe that the current staff team can easily be seen as a "hit or miss" kind of establishment. That's fine, this has happened an abundance of times before. I really do believe that the staff should be evaluated thoroughly. Not just on activity either. Huge roles such as communication, helpfulness, awareness, and so forth are HUGE attributes that make an awesome Moderator. Just because you're clocking in 40+ hours doesn't technically mean you're a good fit for staff. I believe it is time for the staff to work with the administration and so forth. OldCP has recently become quite popular, and now more than ever before is the time where the staff is vital again!
Just my thoughts, again, nice discussion Sam.

Dear Lloyd,
Before I begin to construct what I'd like to say, I would like to acknowledge my appreciation for you - you're an amazing person, and I thank you for all that you have done.
To be completely honest with you, I remember speaking with you a lot. We would talk on the regular, and the topic(s) would always range. However, whenever we discussed something I felt like it was rather eye-opening. I remember we disagreed a lot, but in the end, it came to a neutral feeling. Our conversations always seem to intrigue me, and you truly did make me alter certain perceptions. I will never forget our conversations, or how fascinating they were.
I will also not forget our memories, especially LeoRPG! I didn't forget that we still need to play again, and I hope that one day we can... I enjoyed it a lot! Thank you for always being there for me, and thank you for always having something to say - even if what I was telling you seemed "irrational" or confusing. I appreciated your feedback and still do. Thank you for being a good friend, and someone I couldn't forget. You have done a lot for this community, and it has been a pleasure getting to know you and speak with you.
Best of luck to you Lloyd, I wish you all the best. Please stay in touch, we still have to play LeoRPG! Regardless, you will be missed dearly.

I'm still thriving.
Ok, seriously: what I did is not okay. I've said this before, and I'll continue to say what I believe is true. However, moreover, I could have easily continued to lie to people and made things far worse. I realized that what I did is unforgivable to some people, and that's fine. I am proud of people disagreeing with what I did, which shows me that this community still has un-biased people. I support both the people who disagree with me & those who have learned to support me and move forward.
As for my "employment" as staff on OldCP & the DSGHQ, I am still a good staff member. I know my way around the community, and I have been moderating for quite a long time. This will not alter how I moderate or approach certain situations whatsoever.
Again, I commend you for telling your honest thoughts. I respect you and what you have to say. Just know, that what I did truly had reasoning far deeper than what I am currently comfortable saying, I can not say the same for Courtney/Dayton, I too, barely know half of the story... and I live with them. The Instagram information was NEW information to me. Regardless, at the end of the day, I do feel like a lot has been learned. People can lie and cover so much up online, it isn't difficult. With this said I feel like this community will be more alert, which is a good thing. Honesty will always remain a high virtue, and frankly, I do apologize for not being honest. Yes, I do oftentimes wish I "came out" sooner than what I had, but nonetheless I confessed the truth without anyone "exposing" me first, I did it on my own time with no driving force other than me wanting to finally come clean.
I too wouldn't consider what I did "brave" or "heroic", it is disgusting in multiple senses. However, I am moving on from it. I can either take what I did and make a sob-story from it, or I can learn from it and be that one person who says "you know what, it isn't worth it, just don't do it." Thank you for expressing your opinion, Bakon.

The Restorative Approach
•
9th April 2020, 03:52 PM
I love this.
Throughout my time as staff on OldCP, even on here, I have prided myself on using a very similar approach when taking action(s) against a group of people. Whenever something "crazy" happened, I would normally summon both individuals to my igloo, I'd get both stories - let them talk together, then I would come in again and communicate with them my opinion on the matter.
Personally, I haven't banned that many people on OldCP since 2013... why? Because I typically felt like communication was far stronger than simply rushing into using commands. Sure, commands are indeed fantastic, but they're not going to get your message across as clearly as you may want it. I really like this idea, Damen. Again, there are some circumstances where this approach may not be fit per-say, but it is great nonetheless!

Chis, I wish you all the best. G'luck to you, I hope you find self-closure. People can be vile creatures, and that's okay, we all can... However, you can either take the blows and crash - or take them, run with them, and grow from them. Whichever path you take in life is okay.
