Posted in Spell to Gain Powers • 31st December 2013, 10:11 PM

Guys, the "tingling" feeling that you are experiencing is nothing more than your own imagination. This feeling is a mental thought in your mind that when you expect something to happen, your body reacts by becoming more alert and paranoid, believing that something did in fact happen.

This trick has been used in many different scenarios, but this is the first I've heard it use with magic. Take the imaginary string trick for example. With your right hand, hold up only your index finger. For your left hand, hold up only your index finger and middle finger at the same time. Relax your fingers for your left hand. Now, take your right hand's index finger and spin it around the two fingers of the left hand as if you were wrapping an invisible string or rope around them. You may notice that the two fingers of the left hand begin to slowly curve downwards as if they were actually tied up. However, in reality, it's simply because they were relaxed and so they were moving to a resting position.

Similar to the imaginary string example, the "magic" was just a figure of your imagination. Since your hand has not moved for a while, your body builds up energy for the muscles in your hands, and when you start getting a surplus of that energy, your hand starts to tingle.

I didn't want to ruin anyone's parade, but I also didn't want anyone to believe you could have the powers of an animated figure. The words copied and pasted from the discussion was from the hit television show Charmed, and if the spell was real, that spell is used for gathering a group of sorcerers together in a close bond so that for every member that dies, the other members would be easily killed off (I didn't take the time to research this that much, so that may not be 100% accurate). This spell had nothing to do with gaining powers.

Again, I didn't mean to spoil anyone's fun. However, too many people were falling for the trick and it seemed to make people actually believe they could form snowflakes out of thin air.

You aren't suppose to earn reputation from albums that are liked. Albums do not count for nor against your post reputation.

Posted in Reminder on Replying to Posts • 29th December 2013, 04:02 PM

I just wanted to remind regular users and educate new users that you should not reply to a post describing whether it's too long or if it has been double posted. You should also not reply to a post by saying their grammar isn't good or any personal business occurring between you and that user. For double/triple posting, do not tell the user not to double/triple post in the comments.

The simplest solution is to not say anything at all. However, if you absolutely feel that you must say something, do so by sending an email to either the user that is causing the issue or to a staff member. If you feel you must report it, do so in the report category. If you feel a moderator needs to lock a post, don't say that in the discussion; tell a staff member that is currently online or may be online soon.

This message is for everyone reading, and I am not targeting any specific individual. I must also admit that this is not in the rules, so you can ignore what I say and still post on the forums freely. However, any of the posts you make that are related to the subjects talked about in the first paragraph of this discussion will be considered useless because it is not meant for everyone to see, but rather only a few people, if not one person. You may also risk humiliating the person and you may actually break the rules unintentionally for doing so.

Posted in Easy code learning! • 26th December 2013, 11:34 PM

I would NOT recommend codecademy for beginners. The site is good, but it can lead to confusing and misleading details. I did find it helpful for basic HTML and CSS, but once it got to more serious coding, it didn't give all the right amount of good information. Some codes they give you are actually harder to understand than what most regular programmers know. I would suggest you know a good amount of coding before venturing towards this site. The site does not provide good help or hints and can be frustrating to some users. I have suggested this site to others before, but then going back to it and remembering what it was like, I found it not to be the best source of help.

Not all people will agree with this, and some may actually work with it better than others. The site isn't as bad as I may make it sound like. It is updated constantly, but it still needs much improvement. I just wanted to warn users who may find codecademy as giving them a hard time and may be too difficult to use.

Otherwise, I appreciate you helping others learn to code. An event known as the hour of code has being going around the internet, and this helps make that possible.

Posted in Reminder about Images • 24th December 2013, 08:46 PM

Most people on the forums by now know about the BB Code for inserting images, portrayed as "". However, some people are putting incorrect image links so that their image does not show. This discussion will hopefully help with this issue.

I just want to remind users that links such as "prntscr" is not the actual image link. To get the actual image, you will have to right-click and either choose to copy the image URL, open the image in a new tab and copy the URL, or open the image in a new window and copy the new URL (all three result in the same URL if used on the same image).

For people using lightshot, the beginning of the URL you're suppose to use begins with "i.imgur". The reason why "prntscr" is not the actual image URL is because that URL shows not only the image, but also how many shots were uploaded in total, the various screenshots used on twitter, and more, making that link as a website URL (or just simply URL). The image has to be by itself to be considered an image URL.

If you have trouble reading this in paragraph form, here it is:

How to get actual image URLs:
  1. Right-Click - Copy image URL
  2. Right-Click - Open image in new tab
  3. Right-Click - Open image in new window

Why "prntscr" isn't the actual image URL (A) and why "i.imgur" is (B ):
  1. Prntscr has more than just the image, such as editing tools and Lightshot's facebook.
  2. i.imgur shows the image and the image alone.

Hoped this helped. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.

That's all.

Posted in Locked Rooms • 24th December 2013, 09:53 AM

The Snail Feed and Gold Mine were locked since the beginning of the game (Snail feed actually didn't exist during Snailschat's first stages). I believe Gold Mine was intended to have a minigame associated with it, but obviously was never released. Right before Snailschat was closed down in July, I've heard that Snail Feed was actually open for a little bit to a simple room with a cut-out window:

Since I wasn't on Snailschat for it's last few days, I can't confirm this, but many videos and images just like the one above claim that this was the room for Snail Feed.

The reason why you cannot enter the room today is because the version of Snailschat as of now is NOT the last version of Snailschat released. However, it is close to it's counterpart.

To answer your question: No; you cannot unlock these doors.

Stop copying rile5, trust me, once Damen said it was stupid. Also, we can't, there was a /jr adults room, but people abused it a lot.
Just because Rile5 had a similar function does not mean the idea was based off Rile5; Russell may have not even heard of Rile5 until now. Also, for forums, it becomes much easier to moderate and not nearly as bad as you say it would be as about 8/11 staff members at least would be considered eligible to watch over it.

Hmm,you know kids can just lie and put another age

For kid's that lie about their age, that's their choice. If they believe they can handle the content without being the considered age, Damen is not responsible with the consequences to come of those users.

I believe this is a great idea and hope it gets put through. The maturity test was also a very good add-on.

Posted in Religion in the Forums • 19th December 2013, 05:31 PM

This discussion is mainly a suggestion that I stress on others and for the staff to immediately put up as a rule to the chat.

Religion seems to be a touchy subject in real life and even more in the forums. I know Christmas is soon to come and it's a largely celebrated holiday for many people internationally, but there is one thing that people seem to forget: there are other religions out there.

I could go on and educate you about the thousands of religions that exist, but that's not what this is about. The point I want to make is that religion is controlling too much of the forums, especially at this time of year. After bullying and suicide, religion seems to be the next "drama" there is in the forums.

A user on the forums, Elsa, has been targeted by a handful of users because of her refusal to pray for a certain circumstance since her viewpoint of her religion signified that praying was a time when a person is in a physical problem regarding serious matters, not for those who are being disliked by two or three people. She later decided to quit the community for this unresolved dilemma. People usually base religion off of Judaism, Islam, Christianity, and so on when they forget the different customs that are associated in each one; this means two people can be Christian, but one may go to church and pray for every opportunity they can get while the other stays home on Sundays and pray only when they feel need be.

My suggestion would be to stop sharing religious ideas altogether in the games and the forums. It should be a rule where religion should not be discussed so openly. I know there is freedom of religion in the US, but because of the example of Elsa, people are being hypocritical and one-sided for believing that their religion is the superior and ultimate one while all other ideas are false and unsystematic.

If this will not be put into a rule, then I would suggest players to at least tread lightly on the topic of religion. Not everyone has the same religion as you and not everyone shares the same traditions as you do, even if their religion is the same.

Please see clearly that I am not against religion. I do accept the Christian faith and I do celebrate Christmas, but I don't go around disliking any comment that refuses to do what I do for my religion. Also do not feel that I am pointing any fingers; this message is to all users. Unless someone directly insults your religion, do not feel that they are opposing you in anyway. If someone does insult your religion, report it to a Staff Member immediately.

Hope you don't take this topic the wrong way.

Thanks to Elsa, who allowed me to use her discussion for an example. For the complete discussion, see http://forums.clubpenguin.pro/view/7525-Stop this!!/ .

That's all.

Posted in Snailschat - Airdrop • 19th December 2013, 04:33 PM

Snailschat has a total of four minigames: Airdrop, Connect Four, Mudrun, and Shell Fall.

Airdrop is located on the Cliff in Snailschat. The game is single player and, like every game, is available for all to play. Shell Fall was originally on the Cliff, but because Airdrop was created and designed for a large drop, it replaced Shell Fall. The game is still available today.

View of the Cliff

The only controls are the arrow keys. The left and right arrows are to steer your snail left or right on the screen. The down arrow accelerates the snail downward and the up arrow releases the parachute required to land safely.

Airdrop involves a player to collect a certain amount of coins that are conveniently floating in the air before the snail hits the ground. The player can get more coins than the amount labeled if they have the skill to surpass it. The player is equipped with a parachute because, well, falling off a 30,000 m cliff isn't exactly survivable without the right safety equipment. If the player does not use the parachute before they land on the ground, the snail will be squashed on the grass (there is a bug that after Level 1, the parachute is not required to land safely and so the up arrow is useless during Level 2+). Also, if you do not meet the minimal requirements of the amount of coins you should acquire, you will smash onto the ground regardless if you were using the parachute (this applies to all levels).

Tips for Airdrop

Some people dislike Airdrop because of it's difficulty when first playing the game. However, once the player gets use to the game, it becomes really easy to play. Once a user can get comfortable with the game, they can exceed to levels such as level 8 or even higher. The game is also the fastest way to make money on Snailschat, but because of it being hard to play at first, many people ignore it and play Connect Four, believing that is the best way to easily make money.

Here are some tips to play Airdrop. When you play, you want to slightly tap the down arrow occasionally, as it will give you an extra 40 coins boost every time you hit it. However, the down button needs to 'recharge' and won't give any extra points after using it until a certain amount of time. The precise time is unknown, but it is theorized that the more coins you get, the more 'recharged' the down arrow will be.

However, a 40 point bonus is useless if you can't manually get the coins yourself. This seems to be the most aggravating part of the game. A trick I use is to go back and forth, or left and right, to increase the amount of area I cover. Before I continue, please note that I'm not an aviation scientist and so I won't be using specific terms to describe the following circumstances. Moving one direction and jerking your snail to the opposite direction allows the snail to act like a slingshot. If you see a coin appear on the screen, simply hit the arrow key that the coin is located, such as if the coin was to your right, simply move to your right until you reach it. There will be times when you will hit the left and right keys and as soon as you hit, say, the left key, a coin will emerge to the right side, meaning your snail is too far away from the coin to get it. Use your brain to strategically move your snail appropriately. If you notice that the coin is too far away, simply don't go for it. Even if you see a flock of coins that you miss in a row because they were too far away, don't try to go after them. The coins are always dispersed randomly; there is no telling where the next coin will be. I've experienced missing a lot of coins before as well, it happens all the time. Be patient and practice a lot.

While I do not recommend this tip, it is useful to get a large sum of coins. If you have a relatively slow computer, the game may lag for you. When you experience the frame rate to drop, you notice that more coins will be created as well as the snail going slower. This allows players who do not have quick reflexes to easily go after coins as well as collecting them in larger amounts than normal. Again, this is not recommended because it's a bug that could be fixed in the near future, and since not everyone has a slow computer, not everyone will experience this bug.

Known Bugs
These bugs have existed or still do exist in the minigame Airdrop:
  • Fixed - after every level, more and more coins would spawn, even when the player leaves the game and starts back to level 1:

  • Unfixed - with slow computers that cannot generate the game well, the game lags, causing it to generate more coins than the game would generate if played regularly, causing a similar feature to that of the first bug (before the first bug was fixed, this bug combined with the first one would cause an extreme surplus of coins to cause the event seen above)

I hope this helped with some things regarding Airdrop.

Posted in What Is Snailschat? • 18th December 2013, 05:20 PM

I always forget how many people have not played Snailschat. This short discussion will explain the basics of Snailschat.

This discussion is the official discussion to know what Snailschat, or SC, is and what it once was. More detailed information for items, minigames, and more will be explained in later discussions as well as this discussion regularly updated to those links.

Snailschat is a game created by Damen in early May of 2013. The game was an MMOG (Massively Multiplayer Online Game) designed to be FTP (Free to Play). The game started with few users and gradually increased to become extremely populated. The game later added powers, bug report system, suggestion area, new rooms, new minigames, and loads more. Finding out the history of SC is extremely interesting and entertaining.

There was a short period of time that was known as Beta Testing. During this time, many major changes were added into SC. This included the addition of badges, removal of a badge, a new room, and different placement of a minigame. SC was technically still in Beta even though the testing was announced as officially over because bugs were constantly reported as well as new ideas.

Much of the art in Snailschat was much more simplistic than what you see today. I know I use the word simplistic a lot, but I find it the best term to describe it's feeling. Anyways, Damen began to really experiment his artistic abilities at the Forest, where you can see detailed grass and a picnic:

The game was constantly updated, with things quickly coming and going. This piece of information is what made it important to go on SC daily. However, SC in it's prime would probably be when it first started. The games were buggy, but in an entertaining way. The items were excellent, with a variety to choose from.

Many users made chats, websites, and wikias that reflected SC. The 'drama' you see in the forums was not an issue in SC as it is today by any means. In other words, the game socially was very controlled. The moderators and mediators were perfect.

The game closed sometime in July, saying it would never be open again. However, Damen introduced the game again in December, only confirming it will be out until Sunday. The game has a message in the login screen that says something along the lines of this is to give you a taste of what Snailschat was. This could mean that Snailschat will only be up for a limited amount of time, just to give you a feel of what it's like.

The game can now be played at the exact time it was closed down. Players can view SC as if it they visited a graveyard frozen in time, although that analogy may be too dark for you.

If you have any questions, feel free to comment below. I will have more discussions in greater detail of the specifics in SC. Also, more detail may be added to this post as time progresses.

I have to say, waiting for the new rooms to be announced, knowing that you were one of the oldest snails there, always getting new items, things coming and going, this game was one of the best MMOGs I've ever played. It's simplicity in art made it seem unfinished, which always left that "Beta" feel, even when Beta was officially over. Great moderators, features, games, and lots more. What you are playing is SC stopped in time. Seeing SC grow and develop had a whole new meaning.
