Bella Swan; a normal teenager that gets involved with supernatural beings, and whose parents just divorced.
Edward Cullen; vampire, who finds out that he can’t use his vampire powers on Bella, and feeds on the blood of animals, not humans.
Jacob Black; werewolf, also Bella’s best friend.
IV. A Main Character using Literary Devices
In the first book of the Twilight Saga, Bella Swan is a mortal who is as pale as a ghost. Her eyes are chocolates on her face. But even with the looks of a villain, she is as graceful as a ballerina. She appears to be “normal” in comparison to her friends Edward Cullen and Jacob Black.
V. Narrative Hook
Bella is a mortal who is trying to get adjusted to life at Forks, Washington. In addition to her already hard life, she meets a guy named Edward Cullen, who is surprisingly a vampire. Bella must find a way to fit in and protect her life from bloody-thirsty vampires.
The conflict of the book is Man vs. Man. After Bella meets Edward, her life becomes in danger when Bella and the Cullens are playing a game of baseball and she soon meets another vampire named James.
VI. Resolution
At the baseball game, James tells Bella to go back to her old ballet studio she went to at her mother’s hometown, Phoenix, Arizona. Above everything, she’s been trying to avoid that, but in the end she has to face her problems. Edward family go with her to Phoenix and kill James after Bella gets bitten a few times by James. In the end of the book, after the ballet studio incident, and at the school’s dance, Edward sucks out the venom James put into Bella to prevent her from becoming a vampire.
VII. Personal Reaction
‘“And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.”’ -Edward. After reading this quote in the Twilight, we can see that Edward obviously has feelings for Bella, him being the lion, and Bella being the lamb.
Overall, many have read this book, but a few have not, but even so, I would definitely recommend this book. Twilight has a plethora of deep and grave dialogue and can be humorous at some parts. For example: ‘“It sounded like you were having Bella for lunch and we came over to see if you would share.”’ -Alice. This book is for those who enjoy fantasy.
