When my mother died I was getting out of rehab. I had been there for 2 weeks and at another facility prior for 2 weeks. I was expecting to see my mom for the first time in a month. She wasn't able to visit me with my other family because of her autoimmune diseases. My dad drove down 4 hours to pick me up, I was expecting a calm ride back with him and then to return home and see my family, but that wasn't the case. My dad told me that my mom had passed away late the night before, my grandmother and brother were in the car and we were all going to ride back to my house together.

Honestly, going home just wasn't the same. My mom had been almost constantly confined to our house my whole life, and she was no longer there. If I had gotten out a day sooner, I would've had another day with her, or if she had held on a day longer. She was found unresponsive and not breathing in my backyard, her heart gave out, by the time the paramedics got there, there wasn't anything to do.

Losing a parent is, so, so insanely difficult. And chances are we're all going to have to go through it. There's something about losing them as a kid, before you're your own person, that I believe hurts us in a different way. It just breaks you and makes you grow up all at the same time. I was more damaged than ever and the woman who always comforted me wasn't there to anymore.

Anyway, enough about me, enough about what everyone has to go through, this discussion was about you, and you are one badass girl who has already made it through 2 years without her mother. Continue making her proud, continue holding yourself up high, continue valuing yourself.
