Email verification wouldn't really do anything to combat this since it only takes a minute to create another email account.
I think it could still impact resistance towards the problem. It adds extra time and makes the process more tedious. As door suggested too, administrator's approving accounts could help.

we've tried this before. damen wasn't fond of an email verification system (maybe because not everyone has an email to use), so we had a system in which new users couldn't send public messages until a moderator verified their account. obv that was very tedious, mods weren't always online, and it's hard to determine which accounts are legitimate users, so the feature was removed sometime not too long ago.

i think it's a good idea to bring back the moderator verification. there's almost always at least one moderator online, and sometimes half the users online are mods.

i think so too. i'll def suggest to damen that we bring it back, but i can't promise he'll do it. the verification system was redundant before quarantine (when there were far less users coming online) and he's expecting the user count to drop back down once the pandemic passes.
oh.

Oh gosh.. I remember when I was a mod and we were looking over the verification list and there was like 800 people on it....
half of them were like inappropriate names it was so crazy
