Hello!
First of all, I can't believe I have made it to 1000 posts, that's crazy how far I've come.
I want to move past all the recent drama that's happened with my recent flag project. The Flags of the Union of Sovereign States. If you don't want to read about the brief history of this concept, skip the next section and look at the Flags.
History
A map of what this country would have looked like
The Union of Sovereign States was a planned successor state to the Soviet Union. The treaty for this country (known as the "New Union Treaty"), was drafted in 1991, about nearly half a year before the eventual end of the Soviet Union. Originally it was planned to be named "The Union of Soviet Sovereign Republics" to keep the "USSR" abbreviation, but the people wanted the Soviet Union to have confederated into states that ruled themselves. Mikhail Gorbachev had proposed the idea in 1990 and a referendum was held in 9 republics for this proposal in March of 1991. Some republics (baltic republics, Moldova, Georgia, and Armenia) chose to be left out as they wanted full independence from the Soviet Union. Later, in April of 1991, 8 of 9 loyal republics approved of the New Union Treaty. Ukraine had agreed to accept the New Union treaty but with the terms of the "Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine."
Unfortunately, due to a lot of internal problems in the Soviet Union, the August Coup, and many nations leaning toward independence, the idea never saw the light of day, and the Soviet Union collapsed in late December of 1991. The idea would later be revived and would become the "Commonwealth of Independent States." This was more of a regional alliance, however, rather than a confederation of states.
So what if the idea saw the light of day? Here are the flags that I had come up with.
Flags
THE UNION OF SOVEREIGN STATES FLAG
THE RUSSIAN SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC
THE TURKMEN SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC
THE KAZAKH SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC
THE BELARUSIAN SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC
THE KIRGIZIAN SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC
THE AZERI SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC
THE UZBEK SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC
THE UKRAINIAN SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC
THE TAJIK SOVEREIGN REPUBLIC
Explanation
The Union of Sovereign States Flag was inspired but other flags I saw recommended for the nation. I came to agree upon the design of the crimson and blue flag. The crimson represents Socialism and Revolution. The blue represents the skies, the oceans, the rivers, and the seas. The Central Star resembles the new unity of the country, with 9 surrounding stars representing the 9 republics. The flag is topped off with a laurel wreath, as every good union flag always has a laurel.
The Sovereign Republics keep elements of their national flags, as their sovereignty and national identity would be heightened by the new federation. However, their flags are topped off with the new standard for the Union of Sovereign States in the canton. The only republic that gets the least amount of that national pride is Turkmenistan. This was because most of their symbols surrounded around Islam, which would not go well with the Soviet's secularism. For Turkmenistan, I combined their SSR flag with the color of the current flag. For Belarus, I used their old triband of white and red.
This took very long to make, but tell me what you think below.
