Chemicraft

Chemicraft was a Minecraft server dedicated to the DSGHQ community for two years. The IP for the server was play.chemicraft.net and the website was http://chemicraft.net. It was discontinued in late 2019 due to a lack of player interest.

Description

Chemicraft was an SMP Minecraft server running the Spigot (later Paper) server software. It had a number of plugins ranging from quality of life additions like EssentialsX to moderator tools like CoreProtect. Most plugins were publically available plugins, though some were custom-written by EbonJaeger. The server had a regular survival world, a hardcore survival world, and a creative world.

Before the 1.13 Minecraft update, the server had an arena and minigame world and plugins where players could play games on Chemicraft in addition to regular survival or creative gameplay. The minigames were discontinued the 1.13 update due to massive changes in the server software and API and the plugins not being developed anymore.

1.12.2

The first Minecraft version that the server ran was 1.12.2. This version had the most worlds on the server and the most player activity.

1.13

With the 1.13 Aquatic Update, the main survival world was replaced with a new one so players could experience all of the new oceanic content without having to explore long distances to generate new chunks. The main player settlement at this time was an underwater base in a coral reef biome. It was home to Sled, EbonJaeger, Kensey, Zeternal, Nasherbean, and Tahir.

The arena and minigame world was removed with this update as the plugins required to run the games were no longer being developed and no longer worked on the newer server version.

1.14 and discontinuation

A few months after 1.14 was released, the server was updated. This update wasn't done closer to the version's release due to massive performance regressions and significant bugs in the server from Mojang. The maps were not reset for this version due to there being no significant world generation changes.

In late 2019, the decision was made to shut down the server due to a lack of interest in the server from the players.

Administration and Development

Sled was the primary administrator of the server throughout its life. EbonJaeger was her co-administrator and Technical Lead, handling the backend server services, plugins, and custom plugin development, in addition to regular administrative duties. In the server's early life, KaraMellow was also an administrator but she left later on.

Plugin Development

EbonJaeger developed multiple plugins for the server, one of which was later released to the public on the Spigot website. The plugins he developed were AppleTreeReloaded, PerWorldInventory (though this was made long before the server was created), an unreleased moderator tool to keep track of warnings, kicks, bans, etc, and an unreleased chatbot plugin inspired by the Narwhal IRC bot.
