History

When the Noldor and Vanyar journeyed across Beleriand with Orome to escape destruction and death after the War of the Valar, only one group stayed behind. This group was later named the Sindar, or Grey Elves. Under the rule of King Thingol and his queen, Melian the Maia, they created the Kingdom of Doriath, and built the capital city of Menegroth, which lies underground.

Melian and Thingol.

Menegroth's Construction

Doriath was located in the center of Beleriand. Eventually after living in peace and constructing their cities, the elves decided to create a fortress as Melian sensed evil was coming. This fortress was Menegroth. Eventually evil would come and Melkor would escape from Angband, leading to the First War of Beleriand.

A view of the city after completion

Fall of the Kingdom

The Kingdom of Doriath would eventually fall after King Thingol was slayed by a group of Dwarves who desired to steal the silmaril that was in Thingol's possession. This caused a great war between the Dwarves and the Elves of Doriath. Many were killed on both sides and the entire kingdom was laid to waste.

Menegroth in ruins.

Menegroth would be attacked again years later by the sons of Feanor on their search for one of the Silmarils that had been hidden there. The sons of Feanor would be unsuccessful in their search and no one would reside in the city ever again.

Sinking of Beleriand

Eventually after the War of Wrath, Beleriand would be sunk by Nameless One, and would eventually be drained sometime during January 2022.

Ungoliant's Takeover

Once Beleriand was drained, Ungoliant would return to Beleriand, taking residence in Ered Gorgoroth. Ungoliant would invade the kingdom of Doriath, and began to collaborate with The Fire Nation, seeing more potential in them than Pythas.
