Tuor

Early Life

Birth

Tuor was born to Rian and Huor of House Hador. Sadly, Huor died in battle before Tuor was born. After Huor's death, Rian was taken in by a band of elves and Tuor was born. Rian fell into despair after learning of the death of her husband and died soon after. Tuor was then raised by the elves.

Easterlings

When Tuor was a child, the Easterlings claimed the land of Hithlum and enslaved its people. The older Tuor grew, the more angry he became with the Easterlings. He desired to fight the Easterlings but he was forbidden from doing so. One day Tuor would be captured by orcs who then sold him to the Easterlings. Tuor was enslaved for three years before he managed to escape. Afterwards, he lived life as an outlaw and did much wandering.

Meeting Ulmo

Tuor's wanderings eventually took him to Vinyamar, which had been abandoned for much time. Inside Vinyama, Tuor found a set of armor and a sword that Turgon had left behind on the orders of Ulmo. Tuor put on the armor and took the sword and went down to the sea. Ulmo then appeared before him and gave him a cloak that would hide him from the eyes of any enemies. He also gave Tuor a mission to warn Turgon of the coming fall of Gondolin. Ulmo also sent Voronwe, an elf from Gondolin that he had saved from the sea, to guide Tuor to Gondolin.

Gondolin

Warning Unheeded

When Tuor and Voronwe finally reached Gondolin, Tuor was immediately taken before Turgon as he was arrayed in the armor that Turgon had left at Vinyamar. Tuor delivered to Turgon the warning that Ulmo had sent about the impending fall of Gondolin. Turgon considered Tuor's words but was advised against following them by his nephew, Maeglin. Turgon did not disregard Ulmo's wisdom but ultimately decided that the city was safe and ordered that no be allowed to enter or leave Gondolin again, including Tuor. Tuor was glad to stay in Gondolin and quickly became a man of great honour there.

Starting a Family

During his time in Gondolin, Tuor would fall in love with Idril, who happened to be Turgon's only child.

Turgon was delighted at the couple and gave Tuor his blessing. Tuor and Idril quickly got married. Soon after they had one child together, a son named Earendil.

Fall of Gondolin

After many years, Gondolin's doom would come. Maeglin would reveal the location of Gondolin to Morgoth after he had been captured and threatened with unimaginable tortures. Tuor, Idril, Earendil, and a portion of Gondolin's people managed to escape through a secret tunnel that Idril had made into the mountains.

Sailing West

Tuor and Idril would eventually sail into the west together, leaving Middle-Earth. Despite Tuor being of the race of man, he was accepted into Valinor with his wife and was granted immortality in the land.
