Fundanor

Background

Fundanor is an old spirit who was in the service of Manwe. He was the original herald of Manwe before Eonwe took his place. Together with his brother Tangasor, they protected both the day and the night skies. In their youth, the two brothers were considered to be the best warriors of Manwe.

Fundanor also has the ability to shapeshift into the form of a dove.

Being such a great warrior, Fundanor has participated in many wars throughout his life.

Early Vulture Wars

Fundanor fought in some of the early wars against the vultures but he refused to kill any of them as he had known most of the vultures from before they had been corrupted and were still servants of Manwe. It would have caused him too much pain to slay those whom he had once been so close to.

Service as a Guardian

When the world became dark after the attack from Ungoliant and Melkor, the Ainur created The Sun and The Moon. Arien and Tilion were not assigned as heralds of them at the time, so Varda chose Fundanor to guard the day sky, and Tangasor to guard the night sky.

An Apprentice

Together, Fundanor and Tangasor would take on an apprentice and train him to become a great warrior for Manwe. This apprentice was Telkastaz, a son of Tulkas, who would grow up to become known of as Eonwe, one of Manwe's greatest warriors. Not only did the brothers train Eonwe in battle but they also taught him much lore and wisdom.

Retirement

After Fundanor's apprentice, Eonwe, grew up, Fundanor would become weary of Arda and retire. For his service, Varda granted to him his own nebula named Liniath.

Search for his Brother

At some point after retirement, Fundanor's brother Tangasor would become lost. Fundanor would travel across space and through different galaxies searching for him. These expeditions proved to be very dangerous and Fundanor would have to take on many different forms, yet he was still unable to find his brother. He thinks that his brother went in search of his old friend the vulture king and is living on the vulture planet of Thoro in the Andromeda Galaxy.
