Location

Fort Himring was built atop of a hill named Himring, which was the tallest hill in the region at that time. Himring was a treeless, flattened summit that was surrounded by many smaller hills. It was always cold at the top of Himring, and thus it was also referred to as "The Ever Cold".

Stronghold

The fort of Himring was built by Maedhros, the oldest son of Feanor. From the fort, Maedhros kept watch on the north-eastern border region, helping to keep the lands safe form Morgoth and his terrible creations. The fort withstood a great number of battles and was an elven stronghold for many centuries.

It would finally be abandoned after the fifth battle in the Wars of Beleriand, known as the Battle of Unnumbered Tears. It is thought that it was abandoned as the Feanor's sons would no longer have enough people to man it.

Flooding of Beleriand

After Beleriand was flooded, the peak of Himring would remain as an island above the waves. This island was thus named Tol Himring. It was one of the few places of Beleriand that was never completely sunken.

Vulture Kingdom

At some point, Fort Himring would become the property of the Vulture Kingdom. It is unknown exactly when the Vulture Kingdom took over the fort, it is possible that the vultures took the fort even before the flooding of Beleriand as it had been abandoned for much time. Once Beleriand was drained, it was discovered that the Vulture Kingdom had done much work in the fort as stone vulture heads line the walls and there is a great vulture throne in the lowest accessible level.

Sadly, Fort Himring would take much damage due to the vultures' unwillingness to submit to Ancalagon and Fire Nation and much of the fort currently remains in ruins.

Future of Himring

Glarthir prophecised that Queen Mahannon (MotherVulture) would die in the final battle against Ancalagon and Princess Loki would then become the Queen of the Vulture Kingdom. And thus, Loki would rule over the vultures from Himring. This prophecy came true, though Mahannon would be captured by Ancalagon while trying to save her daughter from the Gorgoroth Dungeons, rather than dying in the final battle.

After Ancalagon's death, Loki succeeded her mother as Queen of Himring and as Queen of Vultures.
